As VFP Construction's first Superintendent, you will serve as the company's senior field leader and have full responsibility for the day-to-day execution of your projects. Unlike larger organizations with multiple layers of field management, you will have the authority to make decisions, lead the job site, and work directly with company leadership. With that autonomy comes accountability for every aspect of field execution, including safety, schedule, quality, trade partner coordination, site logistics, and the client's day-to-day experience.

We deliver lab, cGMP, and commercial interior projects under a single integrated contract - preconstruction, construction, and operational readiness - so tenants and landlords get teams into working space faster and with fewer hand-offs. We are a lean, experienced team that delivers projects through disciplined planning, strong field leadership, and personal accountability.

Description
Our projects consist primarily of life science and commercial interior fit-outs, frequently within occupied or operational facilities where planning, communication, cleanliness, and coordination are critical to project success. The Superintendent is expected to proactively identify and resolve issues, maintain a safe and well-organized job site, and represent VFP Construction professionally with clients, design teams, landlords, building engineers, and trade partners.

This is a hands-on leadership role with direct access to firm leadership and a unique opportunity to help establish the standards, processes, and culture that will shape VFP Construction's field operations as the company grows.

Requirements - What You'll Own

Field Leadership and Daily Operations

• Run all day-to-day site activity and direct field personnel against the project plan

• Maintain a clean, organized, well-documented job site that reflects the firm in front of clients and building ownership

• Communicate progress, issues, and risks to the Project Management Team daily; escalate the right things at the right time so we can solve them while they're still cheap to solve

• Build strong working relationships with clients, landlords, building engineers, designers, and trade partners

Safety

• Own safety in the field as a first responsibility, not a paperwork exercise; set clear expectations and enforce them consistently

• Run subcontractor safety pre-construction meetings before any trade starts work, and confirm site-specific safety plans, current insurance certificates, and SDS documentation are in place

• Walk the site daily against OSHA requirements and the project's site-specific safety plan; correct deficiencies on the spot and document them

• Maintain safety records, incident reporting, and inspection logs accurately and on time

Schedule and Procurement

• Build and maintain the project schedule with the Project Management Team and trade partner input, accounting for long-lead procurement (lab equipment, MEP gear, switchgear, custom millwork) and any conditions that threaten the critical path

• Sequence the work so it meets the contract and the client's operational date; and flag early when something puts that date at risk

• Issue weekly three-week look-aheads and update the master schedule on a regular cadence

Quality, Commissioning, and Turnover

• Establish quality benchmarks and first-delivery/mock-up inspections early so they don't disrupt downstream work

• Verify installations against contract documents, approved submittals, and applicable standards; document and communicate inspection results to the team.

• Coordinate commissioning, qualification, and start-up activities with the client, designers, and specialty trades, and drive a clean punch list and closeout

Trade Partner and Site Management

• Manage subcontractor performance to VFPC's quality, schedule, and conduct standards.

• Run site logistics, staging, deliveries, and access; including the constraints that come with occupied and operating facilities (after-hours work, infection-control/dust protocols, tenant coordination, base-building interfaces).

• Maintain as-built drawings, the current drawing log, and revision control, and keep trade partners working from current information.

Meetings and Administration

• Lead foreman, safety, and subcontractor coordination meetings; participate in turnover, owner, and closeout meetings

• Keep daily reports, logs, files, and delivery records to VFP standards

• Manage closeout: subcontractor closeout, owner training, utility transfer, punch list, and final documentation

Requirements

• 7+ years as a construction superintendent or field leader, including direct experience running interior fit-out work

• Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL)

• OSHA 30

• Demonstrated ability to run a project's field operations largely independently.

• Strong command of safety, scheduling, sequencing, and quality control in the field

• Excellent communication and the judgment to know when to escalate

• Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment wearing many hats

• Fluency in Procore and Bluebeam

Strongly Preferred

• Life science, lab, cGMP, healthcare, or technically complex commercial interior experience

• Experience in occupied or operating buildings and multi-tenant environments

Nice to Have

• Existing relationships with Greater Boston trade partners, building engineers, or life science landlords

• Additional safety credentials (OSHA 30 + competent-person training, first aid/CPR)
